Retaining Walls in Ashmore, QLD

Retaining walls in Ashmore are in demand for two very different reasons, and both come down to the suburb’s rolling hills. Ashmore was built out through the 1970s and 1980s on undulating ground between Southport and Nerang, which means a great many of its original retaining walls are now forty or fifty years old and reaching the end of their life. At the same time, the suburb’s generous blocks have made it one of the Gold Coast’s busiest knockdown-rebuild areas, and almost every rebuild on a sloping lot needs new retaining before the slab goes down. At Gold Coast Retaining Walls we handle both.

Our Retaining Wall Services in Ashmore

We build every common wall type for Ashmore blocks. Our concrete sleeper retaining walls are the popular modern choice and the go-to for rebuild sites. For gardens and lower terraces, timber sleeper retaining walls give a natural look at a lower cost. For taller or heavily loaded walls, including those carrying a driveway or a new slab, core-filled Besser block walls provide real structural strength and take a clean rendered finish. Rock and boulder walls suit the leafier blocks on the western side. And where an older wall is leaning, cracking or holding water, our retaining wall drainage and repairs service can assess and fix it.

Built for Ashmore’s Rolling Hills

Ashmore sits about seven kilometres west of Southport on the Nerang River, and it is well known as an older, well-established suburb built on rolling hills and surrounded by mature trees. That elevation is the appeal here, with some homes looking out toward the beach on one side and the hinterland on the other, but it is also why retaining walls are so common on these streets. Level yard on a hillside block has to be created, and it has to be held.

The suburb’s history explains the rest. Development began in earnest when the Ashmore Village estate went in during the mid-1970s, followed by Bellevue Park, Timbertops, Paradise River and Paradise Heights, with most of the residential estates built through the 1970s and 1980s. Ashmore was officially named and bounded in 1982. Those original estate walls, many of them timber, have now had four or five decades of Gold Coast wet seasons working against them. Timber rots, posts rust, and walls built before proper subsoil drainage was standard practice start to lean. That is a very large share of the repair work we are called out to here.

The second stream is new. Ashmore’s homes sit on generous lots, typically 600 to 800 square metres, and a lot of that housing stock dates from the eighties and nineties, which makes it prime for rebuilding. On a sloping Ashmore block, a knockdown rebuild almost always needs retaining sorted post-demolition and pre-build, while the site is clear and machine access is at its best. Getting the walls in at that point is far cheaper and cleaner than retrofitting around a finished house, and any wall over a metre or carrying the new slab will need engineering and building approval, which we organise as part of the job.

Serving Ashmore and the Surrounding Area

We build retaining walls right across Ashmore, from the older Ashmore Village and Bellevue Park streets to the rebuild blocks nearer Benowa and Molendinar, as well as the wider Gold Coast. If you are nearby, we also serve neighbouring suburbs including Nerang, Maudsland, Worongary, Mudgeeraba, Reedy Creek, Elanora and Tamborine.
